Learn to create a beautifully textured fabric journal using different textile scraps

about the course

The Snippet Journal is a how-to journaling course, where I show you step-by-stop how to create your very own textile journal from various fabric scraps. I initially created this journal how-to for a class I’m still currently working on. This content no longer fits that particular course, so I’ve decided to offer it as a stand alone, “how to create a journal” sort of course.

The class is broken down into 8 lessons to be completed at your leisure. Each lesson will contain step-by-step video instruction on how to create your snippet journal. I’ll show you how to create individual snippet rolls and how to embellish those rolls with various buttons, beads and embroidery. You’ll learn how to collage those snippet rolls into a journal cover and how to create signatures from various papers to bind into the cover and create your one-of-a-kind fabric snippet journal.

YOUR TEACHER

Hello. I’m Tiffany Julia. I’m an artist living in New York City with an absolute passion for documenting my everyday life. I love to write, compose music, scrapbook and create art. I’m a creative of all kinds really, who also enjoys traveling the world and learning about different cultures, all while I eat tons of delicious food. I love documenting my various journeys around the world in thick handmade travel journals, and while I’m not out traversing the globe, I enjoy documenting the everyday in my scrapbooks and experimenting with mixed media in my art journals.

I have an unrestrained passion for many things and I often find myself longing for something greater than life. I hope to share my creativity and inspire you to create beautiful imagery and document your own life in a meaningful way.

When I originally set up these pages in my @getmes When I originally set up these pages in my @getmessyartjournal Season of Bloom art journal, I left a lot of space to write about what blooming means to me. It means growth, blossoming, and becoming. It means to flourish. It also represents nature and the restorative power of being in the wild.

Bloom means a lot to me and yet while finishing up some of these half-finished pages, I was at a loss for words. This is when I found that word phrase stickers really help get the message across. xx
Just another spread in my @getmessyartjournal Seas Just another spread in my @getmessyartjournal Season of Bloom art journal. A lot of these pages were already in progress, so it's interesting to see them finished. I'm sure I had other intentions for what they were going to look like a couple of years ago when I first created this journal. Now, I'm content with matching colors, adding paint, and a few scribbles. This journal is all about the process of creating for me now, which I think is still a source of growth. xx
Another spread in my @getmessyartjournal Season of Another spread in my @getmessyartjournal Season of Bloom art journal. I rather like how this one turned out! I'm quite obsessed with using this Payne's Gray NeoColor crayon to make some scattered marks on my page. You might see a lot more of this in future spreads from this book. xx
I've been enjoying following along with the @getme I've been enjoying following along with the @getmessyartjournal #getmessymay prompts. I've basically been just watching them as they are posted. But the other night, I attempted the Happy prompt and it literally has gotten back into simply playing around with my supplies. I pulled out this very old Seasons of Bloom journal that is SO CLOSE to being finished. I figure I'd channel all of this creative energy I have right now to finishing it up!

I'm not responding to any particular prompt, just using the processes and techniques shared to finally complete this journal. xx
Another handful of #littleartnotes that I’ll be Another handful of #littleartnotes that I’ll be taking with me to Tennessee. I’ll be visiting friends over there for two weeks, so I made an entire batch of cards to share with the lovely people of TN. This is just a handful of them. These might be my favorites because they’re so colorful! xx
