you & me traveler's notebook mini

Hello everyone! I’m here with a project using the January Hip Kit Club Kits! I decided to make a little traveler’s notebook minibook about my best friend and I, and use it to document all of our travels that have happened and our travels that will happen. I only documented on the first four pages. There were a few other photos I wanted to add as well, but I also wanted to leave room for future travels. I was also debating whether or not I wanted to give this book to my friend to add his own experiences to the pages, so I decided to only document a little.

I took a empty Webster’s Pages inserts and took it apart. I didn’t want all of the pages as I was going to add dimensional pieces to the book and that causes a bit of bulk. I also wanted to put my own cover on it. So I just took a few of the black pages and made my own little book with it, using one of the papers from the kit to create my cover. Once I stitched my book up, I decorated the cover with white fabric alphas from the Embellishment kit to spell out “You & Me.” I used the ampersand from the 1Canoe2 6×12 sticker sheet from the Project Life kit, as well as the floral and gold foil heart sticker to accent the title. I also added one of those gold glitter cork butterflies from the Pink Paislee Moonstruck sticker pack from the Embellishment kit.

For my first page I left the back of the cover bare because I love that floral pattern so much. So I did a little intro page on the right. I used the Studio Calico puffy alpha stickers from the Project Life Kit to to write out “And So It Begins.” At the bottom I created my little photo cluster, as I like to call them. I backed the 2×2 photo with some paper then layered the florals from the exclusive Hip Kit Club die cuts from the Embellishment kit in the corner. Then I used a white cork floral from 1Canoe2 layered over them. I added some washi strips from the exclusive Hip Kit Club washi strip pack on the bottom edge of the page and tucked two Hip Kit Club phrase cut apart behind the florals that read “Best Friends” and “Adventure.” I finished off the page with one of the Pink Paislee cork stickers.

For my second spread I used the honeycomb bee paper from 1Canoe2. I fussy cut a corner of the paper out to put it on the left page corner of my book. I made sure to include a hexagon with one of the black bees printed on it. I then simply layered the Hip Kit Club die cut letters that spell out “HAPPY” over the honeycomb and one of the 1Canoe2 stickers that say “Hello.” on the other side, I placed my photo on the top right. I backed my photo with the honeycomb PL card so a bit of that patter shows through. So I decided to repeat the hexagons in that corner and layered the photo over it alone with a bee sticker from the same 1Canoe2 sticker sheet. I used one of the Hip Kit Club cut apart that says “Be Brave” and accented it with a puffy sticker from Pink Paislee’s Moonstruck line from the Embellishment kit.

I journaled below my photo cluster. I decided to draw a bunch of lines in black ink then write out my journaling. I normally don’t ever do this, but I really liked the way Ali Edwards does it, so I decided to try it out because my pages were so minimal. I actually really like how it looks too!

For the third spread, I decided to cover the entire left page with pattern paper. I used the same paper I made the cover out of and included the pink branding strip from that same paper. I used two photos on this spread. I like taking feet photos, especially when I travel, and my friend and I took a bunch of them while on our trips. I used two of my favorites that we took in Southeast Asia, backed them with the pink script paper from Pink Paislee’s Moonstruck, and placed them on the page. I just love that little pop of pink. I then used a 1Canoe2 sticker that reads “Adventure Awaits,” which I thought was super perfect for this book.

I left the right page blank for the most part. I just used leftover bits from the paper and branding strip to make a few banners that I placed at the top right corner. I layered an arrow sticker from 1Canoe2 and a puffy sticker from Pink Paislee that reads “Beautiful Life” over the banners. And again, I drew some lines and did my journaling in the center of that page.

For the last spread, I used that greenish woodgrain paper to cover up the bottom corner on the right side page. I then used the Studio Calico white puffy alpha stickers to spell out “Monkey Around,” since the photo I used was a selfie my friend and I took at the Monkey Forest in Bali. I added a green painted cork arrow from 1Canoe2 and some of the triangle enamels in that navy blue, just to accent that corner a bit and balance out colors.

On the left page, I simply have my photo and a green painted cork butterfly. I backed my photo with some of that green woodgrain paper and accented it with the butterfly. I then drew some flight dashes to give that butterfly a little something. Again, I drew my lines and did some journaling.

I kept my pages super simple and I’m loving how this little book is turning out so far! Be sure to check out my process video below!

I made a new snippet journal. This one is 6x6 and I'm going to use it as an art journal. I really really want to get back into art journaling. Like, it has been calling me for most of this year and I just haven't gotten back into the flow of it. I've been enjoying my time (writing) journaling, but there's this nagging feeling deep inside of me that wants to get messy but for some reason refuses to begin. So I think I'm just going to make myself begin. Just start and see what happens. I'm gonna make a lot of shitty art but if that's the means to begin then so be it

Let's go make some shitty art.

I hope I can begin this weekend. Process video of me creating this journal is up on my Youtube channel, if you're interested.

Happy Friday lovelies! xx

Still working through @lizelayne’s Water Your Soul course in my WYS journal. This little binder is getting so chunky! I still have lots to work through and am just merrily bouncing back and forth between lessons, anchoring myself in whatever practice my heart needs right now.

Today’s Flip-Through Friday is my Summer Stories 2023 journal.

This is sort of a hodge-podge journal of all sorts of bits—memories, junk, photos, art journal spreads, and lots of journaling. I've kept it all summer and it's now filled and completed and ready to share.

Here's just a quick flip-through. I've got a full chatty flip up on my Youtube channel if that's more your speed.

Happy Friday loves! xx

I finally finished filling up my 2023 Summer Stories journal. I had originally intended to only keep this one from June to July, but I didn't journal as much as I thought I would in here this summer, so it has lasted me through to the first few days of September. I'm not mad about it. I prefer a filled journal to a half-filled one. I personally hate leaving too many pages blank at the end. I'm hoping to have a flip-through up on my Youtube channel tomorrow. Just have to film it! 😆

Just wanted to share a little look at my Water Your Soul journal that I've been keeping this year for @lizelayne's class. I'm finding that I tend to dip into the course whenever I have the time and it's never consistent. But I am so surprised at how much I've actually managed to fill in this journal!

It is mostly a mixture of the class printables and my answers to the questions, magazine clippings, quotes, and lots and LOTS of journaling, but it's been a lovely place to return to over and over again.

I was able to explore more of the lessons this past weekend when I had some time thanks to the holiday. But I think that the joy of this particular journal—and course really—is that I can return to any part of it at any time and pick up where I left off. I can work out of order and move stuff around—love the binder for this! I get it, Liz! I love how this journal is growing as I move and grow through all of the And Spaces we've been exploring—and even some other And Spaces that showed up for me too!

I can't wait to see how this journal ends up looking by the end of the year. xx

I had one of those days today where I was so exhausted from the week but at the same time wanted to go out and do something. Ever feel that way while also knowing that you just need to rest?

I really wanted to sit in Central Park and catch up on all of my journals but I just couldn’t motivate myself to actually walk to the park. So I took myself (and the dog) down to our building’s courtyard and set up shop on the tiled patio. While there was no grass, it was very quiet out there and I was able to catch up on some journaling and continue in my Water Your Soul binder from where I left off months ago.

Past me had printed all the lovely printables @lizelayne had for every lesson that I had yet to complete, so I spent some time getting all of them into my journal. This quote in particular stood out to me today. This is me. I've dealt with perfectionism all my life and for the last 10 years, I've slowly been coming into my own person separate from the need to "be perfect."

There is no such thing as perfection. The reality that we're all so beautifully imperfect is the real truth we should all strive for.

Anyway, I hope you've all had and are having a wonderful Sunday. xx
