2017 vision board | hip kit club

December 30, 2016

To say hello to the new year, I created a vision board mostly using the December Hip Kits, with a few bits from the November and October kits, and some bits from my stash. I would normally do a vision board spread in my planner based on my new year intentions/goals, but this year, I went ahead and created a real vision board to hang in my room.

I took a regular 16×24 inch cork board and covered the brown cork part with natural canvas. I don’t know about you, but I like fabric covered cork boards because it adds a nice texture and covers the ugly brown cork really well. I chose natural canvas because I wanted all of the colorful bits and pieces I pin to the board to stand out and make a statement. Once I had my cork all covered–I simply tucked the canvas edges into the wooden frame of the board–I proceeded to gather all my bits and began with making two little pockets. I made these pockets the exact same way I made them for my planner, the post and video you can find on the Hip Kit Club Facebook page and my Youtube channel. I used two papers from the Main kit: the plus sign paper from Maggie Holmes and the ledger/hexagon paper from Pink Paislee’s Take Me Away. I embellished them with die cuts from the Take Me Away ephemera pack and the Pink Paislee Birthday Bash sequins.

I then began placing things on my board. I placed the pockets on opposite ends of each other on the board. In each pocket, I have a quote card from Kikki K that’s all about being brave. Brave is my One Little Word for 2017, so I tried to incorporate it into this vision board as much as possible. I also used a lot of words–from the white foam word thickers from Amy Tangerine and the gold foam thickers from Take Me Away that came in the October kits–that either added onto the word Brave or that represented things I want to do more off in 2017.

Besides the two quote cards and my photos, the “Be Brave” card along with the macrons and heart balloons cards, as well as the white and gold butterflies, pink gold foiled ticket and mint heart die cut were also from my stash. A few of the flair pieces, like the bird and hot air balloon, are also from my stash. The bits from other Hip Kits that I included on my board are: the “Wonderful” flair piece and the pink and blue mini pom poms from the November kits, and the Take Me Away gold foam thickers from the October kits. Everything else came from the December kits.

All of the photos on my board were matted on the Lilac cardstock from American Crafts. All of the thickers were placed directly onto the board because they were self adhesive. All the other elements that seem to be floating on the surface of my board with tacked on by being super glued to metal thumb tacks. Definitely watch the video below where I show you each section of my 2017 vision board to get a better idea of how it all came together!

I had so much fun with this color scheme and style that I went ahead and made two matching #littleartnotes! This color combo is super rare for me (Titan Buff and Titan Mars Pale with Payne's Gray marks), but I'm really digging it!

When I originally set up these pages in my @getmes When I originally set up these pages in my @getmessyartjournal Season of Bloom art journal, I left a lot of space to write about what blooming means to me. It means growth, blossoming, and becoming. It means to flourish. It also represents nature and the restorative power of being in the wild.

Bloom means a lot to me and yet while finishing up some of these half-finished pages, I was at a loss for words. This is when I found that word phrase stickers really help get the message across. xx
Just another spread in my @getmessyartjournal Seas Just another spread in my @getmessyartjournal Season of Bloom art journal. A lot of these pages were already in progress, so it's interesting to see them finished. I'm sure I had other intentions for what they were going to look like a couple of years ago when I first created this journal. Now, I'm content with matching colors, adding paint, and a few scribbles. This journal is all about the process of creating for me now, which I think is still a source of growth. xx
Another spread in my @getmessyartjournal Season of Another spread in my @getmessyartjournal Season of Bloom art journal. I rather like how this one turned out! I'm quite obsessed with using this Payne's Gray NeoColor crayon to make some scattered marks on my page. You might see a lot more of this in future spreads from this book. xx
