“all smiles” faux project life spread | hip kit club

"all smiles" faux project life spread

Hey everyone! I’m here with a project using my December Hip Kit Club Kits. This is another one of those Project Life spreads in my 12×12 spiral scrapbook. I’ve taken a liking to doing my Project Life spreads this way and honestly don’t miss the pocket pages at all. I don’t know what it is, but I have a seriously aversion to the pocket pages when it comes to a Project Life style album. I guess it’s cause I feel a bit restricted when making my layout. I like the effect of things overlapping each other.

Anyway, I worked in my 12×12 scrapbook. Now, I’m using this scrapbook to house all of my favorite things–I’m calling it “My Favorite Things” album–and am using some of my favorite photos that I’ve taken over the years. My aim is for this album to be light and fun, and not something that I need to constantly update but instead work in whenever I want.

So I used up the remaining Project Life cards I had from the December Kit, along with cards I made from the papers in the Main kit. I used two papers from the Pink Paislee Take Me Away collection: the grid side from paper #22 and both sides from paper #4. I played around with the position of the cards until I found a really nice balance in color before I began laying out my photos.

For the photos, I stuck with the ones that had a lilac purple hue to them because I felt they matched the colors of this kit better. All of my cards are roughly 2×2 in size, which is a perfect fit to place them on the cards and layer them over paper. All of the photos are matted with either the lilac cardstock from American Crafts that came in the Cardstock add-on or that Take Me Away #4 paper.

In the top row, I use two 3×4 cards and a 4×6 card. The first is the Hello card from the Project Life kit. The next is one of the Take Me Away #4 paper cards I made. I put one of my favorite feet photos on this card and embellished it with one of the phrases from the cut apart sheet included in the Project Life kit, layered on top of a strip of the aqua glitter tape from the Embellishment kit that I cut into a banner. I then place one of the Heidi Swapp Gold Puffy hexagon stickers from the Project Life kit and a pink Carta Bella enamel dot from the Embellishment kit to accent the banner off.

For the next card, I used the backside of the Take Me Away #4 as my base. I then took the Maggie Holmes Blossom paper from the Bloom collection, and cut out a few of the plus signs. I used them as X’s down the left side of the card. They sort of resemble colorful bandages. I then took the “Hello You” tag from the Take Me Away ephemera pack from the Main kit and placed it crookedly on the card. I layered my favorite photo of my dad at an angle on top, then embellished the whole thing with butterflies I punched out of the #4 paper and a few of the Carta Bella enamel dots. I love the ombre-ish effect the butterflies give to this card!

For the second row, I use four 3×4 cards. The first card is the grid side of the Take Me Away #22 paper. I simply place my photo matted on the lilac cardstock in the center and used one of the Hip Kit Club exclusive arrow wood veneers along with one of the My Mind’s Eye gold acrylic bows to frame it. I did the exact same thing for the forth card in this row, in order to keep the balance.

The second and third card act as my journaling and title cards. I used that list card from the Project Life kit to list what each photo I used on this spread represents. I just covered the “Moments I don’t Want to Forget” title with one of the phrases from the cut apart sheet that reads “Just Because…” I also tucked the Details tab from the Hip Kit Club exclusive die cut ephemera pack behind the car at the top. For my title card, I used the Amy Tangerine white foam phrase thickers to read “All Smiles” on top of a card I made from the #4 Take Me Away paper. I embellished this card with a few more of those butterflies I punched out of the same paper.

In the last row, I have one 4×6 card and two 3×4 cards. For the 4×6 card, I used the backside of the #4 Take Me Away paper to mirror the 4×6 card in the top row. I took the “#LoveYa” tag from the Take Me Away ephemera pack and cut it in half to use the top part tucked behind my photo. I placed it down on an angle on the left. I then took the craft jar ephemera piece from the same pack and placed it on the right. Again, I embellished the card with those pretty ombre butterflies I punched out, with a few of the Carta Bella enamel dots.

The 3×4 card next to it was from the PL kit and it reads “Just Keepin’ It Real.” And the final 3×4 card is the grid side of the #22 paper. I used the “#LoveYa” part of the tag as a tab coming from behind the photo I placed in the center of the card. I repeated the aqua glitter tape banner underneath the photo with a phrase cut apart piece layered on top that reads “Made Me Smile.” I accented it with a gold camera puffy sticker from Heidi Swapp. Repeating little accents like this really help to balance out a spread and I love how this one came out!

I made a new snippet journal. This one is 6x6 and I'm going to use it as an art journal. I really really want to get back into art journaling. Like, it has been calling me for most of this year and I just haven't gotten back into the flow of it. I've been enjoying my time (writing) journaling, but there's this nagging feeling deep inside of me that wants to get messy but for some reason refuses to begin. So I think I'm just going to make myself begin. Just start and see what happens. I'm gonna make a lot of shitty art but if that's the means to begin then so be it

Let's go make some shitty art.

I hope I can begin this weekend. Process video of me creating this journal is up on my Youtube channel, if you're interested.

Happy Friday lovelies! xx

Still working through @lizelayne’s Water Your Soul course in my WYS journal. This little binder is getting so chunky! I still have lots to work through and am just merrily bouncing back and forth between lessons, anchoring myself in whatever practice my heart needs right now.

Today’s Flip-Through Friday is my Summer Stories 2023 journal.

This is sort of a hodge-podge journal of all sorts of bits—memories, junk, photos, art journal spreads, and lots of journaling. I've kept it all summer and it's now filled and completed and ready to share.

Here's just a quick flip-through. I've got a full chatty flip up on my Youtube channel if that's more your speed.

Happy Friday loves! xx

I finally finished filling up my 2023 Summer Stories journal. I had originally intended to only keep this one from June to July, but I didn't journal as much as I thought I would in here this summer, so it has lasted me through to the first few days of September. I'm not mad about it. I prefer a filled journal to a half-filled one. I personally hate leaving too many pages blank at the end. I'm hoping to have a flip-through up on my Youtube channel tomorrow. Just have to film it! 😆

Just wanted to share a little look at my Water Your Soul journal that I've been keeping this year for @lizelayne's class. I'm finding that I tend to dip into the course whenever I have the time and it's never consistent. But I am so surprised at how much I've actually managed to fill in this journal!

It is mostly a mixture of the class printables and my answers to the questions, magazine clippings, quotes, and lots and LOTS of journaling, but it's been a lovely place to return to over and over again.

I was able to explore more of the lessons this past weekend when I had some time thanks to the holiday. But I think that the joy of this particular journal—and course really—is that I can return to any part of it at any time and pick up where I left off. I can work out of order and move stuff around—love the binder for this! I get it, Liz! I love how this journal is growing as I move and grow through all of the And Spaces we've been exploring—and even some other And Spaces that showed up for me too!

I can't wait to see how this journal ends up looking by the end of the year. xx

I had one of those days today where I was so exhausted from the week but at the same time wanted to go out and do something. Ever feel that way while also knowing that you just need to rest?

I really wanted to sit in Central Park and catch up on all of my journals but I just couldn’t motivate myself to actually walk to the park. So I took myself (and the dog) down to our building’s courtyard and set up shop on the tiled patio. While there was no grass, it was very quiet out there and I was able to catch up on some journaling and continue in my Water Your Soul binder from where I left off months ago.

Past me had printed all the lovely printables @lizelayne had for every lesson that I had yet to complete, so I spent some time getting all of them into my journal. This quote in particular stood out to me today. This is me. I've dealt with perfectionism all my life and for the last 10 years, I've slowly been coming into my own person separate from the need to "be perfect."

There is no such thing as perfection. The reality that we're all so beautifully imperfect is the real truth we should all strive for.

Anyway, I hope you've all had and are having a wonderful Sunday. xx
