things i’m loving ✩ 37 | september 2022

September 30, 2022

September was a rough month. I was already in the midst of grieving, so the 10th anniversary of my dad’s passing really hit me hard. I often wonder why certain things happen to me in seemingly non-serendipitous ways, like how unlucky it is to lose two people years apart on the same day. I know I’m being terribly vague here, but this little note is more for future me to look back on and ponder than for anybody else to understand.

Let’s just say September was a hard month emotionally.

Anyway, here are a few things I enjoyed this month because there are always these little silver linings.

Reading

13 Little Blue Envelopes by Maureen Johnson. I always find it interesting that I somehow choose books to read that kind of relate to my life at the moment I read them. I don’t care what anyone says, but this book was about grief—the grief of losing someone you love in more ways than one, not knowing why they left, and not being able to ask questions and get answers because they’re gone. But it’s also about discovery—experiencing new places with new people and learning about yourself. It definitely made me want to travel through Europe again. Overall, I enjoyed it. Oh, and I also reread Old Magic by Marianne Curley.

Watching

The Age of Adeline, Belle, Elvis, Pinocchio, Thor: Love & Thunder…SO MANY THINGS! The Age of Adeline was great and I’m surprised I hadn’t watched it sooner. Belle was a bit weird but the music was fantastic. I LOVED Elvis. Pinocchio was so-so. I really don’t understand why we need these “live-action” remakes. And Thor was sad. I didn’t really like why it had to end that way, but Christian Bale was AMAZING. Wasn’t expecting him to be in this to be honest.

Listening To

Nightbirde. All of her stuff over and over again. It saddens me that she wasn’t able to release more. She wasn’t given enough time.
